Services Utility: Macromedia Licensing Service Service Display Name (?): | Macromedia Licensing Service | Short Name (?): | Macromedia Licensing Service | Executable (?): | Macromedia Licensing.exe | Library (?): | None. | Depends On (?): | None. | Supports (?): | None. | Description (?): | Provides authentication services for Macromedia applications. | OS (?): | Third party or non-default | Startup (?): | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The Macromedia licensing service provides license management for Macromedia products. This service was originally implemented in Dreamweaver MX 2004, but it is likely that other Macromedia products use it. The actual purpose of the service is to enumerate hardware devices for product activation. So, if it detects the hardware it was originally installed on has changed then it asks for you to resubmit your registration to Macromedia. If you disable this service then you may not be able to use Macromedia products that communicate with this service. However, if you use a corporate registration key then this service is not necessary and it can be disabled. Once this service has started it will not shut down once all Macromedia programs are closed. |

"Oh yes. That's how it starts. But the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is very much shorter then we think... For the first link the chain is formed. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." --Captain Jean Luc Picard (ST TNG, Drumhead)
